A common purpose

We commit to pursue a common purpose, to reach our nation with the Good News of Jesus Christ.

A shared identity

We affirm that our salvation in Christ gives us a common identity and makes us members of one Body.

A unifying truth

We affirm and believe the truths expressed in our Basis of Faith.  We affirm the need to contend for truth while being willing to learn from each other.  When discussing or writing about issues of faith or practice that divide, we will consider the frequency of our own failings, and acknowledge the possibility that we ourselves may be mistaken.  We will speak the truth in love, avoiding personal hostility.

A mutual respect

We will work to honour each other while affirming that we hold to our distinctives. We will pray as Jesus prayed that we may be one in the Father and the Son. We are committed to promoting relationships of love, peace and fellowship within the Body of Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit.  We will respect our differences of culture, church background, experience and doctrine, understanding that differences on secondary issues may not be resolved in our lifetime.

A strong relationship

We commit to building each other up in relationships of encouragement and integrity. If we have difficulties with another person involved in EAI we will speak directly to the person.  When we hear an accusation or criticism of another we will speak to that person directly about the matter.  If a matter of criticism is to be raised publicly we commit to first confer directly with the person being criticised regarding the intent of their statement.  We will then consider how serious the perceived error is and put a charitable construction on what is doubtful.
